Rocks at the Lock!
Teddington
River Festival 2006
June
2006 saw the third annual River Festival taking place at the Lock in
Teddington, Middlesex.
When
planning the community fund raising event with free access to the
public, the event organisers were faced with the challenge of covering a
wide area with sound, not only on a centre stage on an island in the
middle of the river Thames, but also on the grounds to each side of the
river.
The centre stage was used by a number of acts and performers,
ranging from local community drama and music schools, to a grand finale by
the Art Wood Allstars; a band headed by Art (brother of the Rolling Stones
Ronnie) Wood, accompanied by a host of some of the biggest names in
British music history. A total
of ten performances by eight acts in one day… phew!
We opted for an 8kw Cray Acoustic system for front of house sound,
combined with Turbosound monitors on stage. The
end result can only be described as stunning, with warm, rich lower end
frequencies whilst remaining crystal clear through the middle and top. A hit with both the audience and
performers alike.
Covering
an area of some 10,000m2 with sound would have been fairly
straight forward, were it not for the fact that the river
Thames
ran through the middle
of it! With this in mind,
running cables was not going to be an option, so instead a UHF
transmission system was used to send signals from the main desk to three
remote points around the grounds, enabling 12 satellite speakers to keep the
18,000 or so attendees entertained and informed.
Being
Fathers Day, and with the Football World Cup in full flow, we installed
Plasma Screens into the FourFourTwo
beer tents, which were well received.
Once
again, Innovation AV succeeded in providing exactly what the client
wanted, on time and on budget!
“It’s great to
have found an AV company that I can trust and rely on”
commented Ingrid van der Weide, event organiser.
Thanks
Ingrid, we’re looking forward to making next year’s event even better,
bolder and brighter!
